Fish Play Dough Counting Mats

Since all I can think about is the beach lately, I decided to make some ocean/beach theme play dough math mats!

I also have a whole page of play dough math mats you can find at the link.

Print the mats and either laminate them or slip them into clear page protectors. I usually put them in page protectors and hook them together with metal binder rings to make them like a flip book. The top of each mat says, “Put [#] fish in the water.” Students will identify the numeral on each page, and count out the correct number of fish to place in the water.

There’s also a toddler mat for children who are not ready for counting yet, but need the fine motor practice. This mat simply says, “Put some fish in the water.”

Children can use  play dough to make the fish by simply rolling the play dough into a ball. This would also work great with goldfish crackers! Other options to represent fish: pom-pom balls, flat floral marbles, bingo chips, craft foam fish shapes, fish shaped erasers.
